Wireless Networking: 5.1 to 5.8 GHz

The 5.1-5.8 GHz frequency band is the first most popular range today for wireless networks. 5 GHz has some advantages over the lower-frequency band :

Advantages of 5 GHz band
• A smaller Fresnel zone
• Usually, there is much less interference from other sources
• Faster data rates
Disadvantages of 5 GHz band
• Much lower tolerance for obstacles, like trees or walls
Wireless network designers often choose to deploy 2.4/5 GHz dual-band wireless networks, increasing the complexity of their network solutions, but also allowing them to enjoy benefits associated with utilizing both frequency bands.
